A Step Through The Empty: Review

This debut novel I read a few weeks ago just took my breath away! I absolutely loved it!

5 Stars
prose: 5/5
Romance: 5/5
Characters: 5/5
Plot: 5/5
Prose:

Very well written and descriptive! While this wasn’t necessarily the best part of the novel, it was very enjoyable and I liked reading it.

Romance:

Very sweet! Believable but still subtle and sweet. I definitely ship the main romance thread in the story! Another cool aspect of this is the way the author portrayed the already married couples in the story, too often you don’t get to see this in fantasy novels. Definitely a slow-burn romance.

Characters:

Probably my favorite part! Shad and Bry’s constant snark, Stori’s determination, and Lawr’s grumpy curiosity were all very well executed. I enjoyed every bit of it! All of the side threads and different character relationships tied in very well to each other.

Plot:

Very engaging! While I suspected some of the book’s ending, there was a lot of it I didn’t expect at all. I enjoyed reading it, and it definitely kept me hooked!

Overall:

A great read! I highly recommend it for those of you looking for a new fantasy world to get into. It’s definitely a fun one, and I read it almost all in one sitting. I couldn’t put it down!

Content:

Mentions of battle, blood, death. Mentions of men taking advantage of women (and not). Mentions of illegitimate children and a (married) couple talk about consummating their marriage. One woman talks (repeatedly) about how a queen’s job is to have an heir for the kingdom. These things are shown as wrong, but definitely there. A light kiss (very brief, not described).

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
